What will I study?

You will study a range of units which relate to good practice in the field of Health and Social Care, which include:

  • Introduction to Healthcare
  • Personal and Professional Development in Health and Care
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Safeguarding
  • Safe Working
  • Understanding Cognative Impairement
  • Understanding Individual Care Needs
  • Quality Service Provision

You will also be required to undertake 1-2 day placement in an adult care setting, completing a minimum of 200 hours

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum five grade 4-9/C-A* at GCSE including English and maths, or successful completion of the Level 2 qualification. A clear DBS check will be required.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed via a Exam, professional recorded discussion, two synoptic assessments and a case study.

You will also build up a professional practice portfolio and this is part of your professional practice whilst on mandatory placement of 200 hours. All of this is supported by your tutors .

What qualification will I achieve?

Duration: 1 year Equivalent to: 1.5 A Levels Qualification title: City and Guilds Level 3 Health and Social Care Advanced Technical Diploma UCAS: Yes accepted by UCAS

Year 2: Achievement means that students can continue in to the second year on to the City and Guilds Level 3 Health and Social Care Advanced Technical Extended Diploma.

What can I do after completing this course?

On successful completion of Year 1 you can progress onto the Level 3 Health & Social Care Extended Diploma.

On completion of two years you could apply for a higher level apprenticeship, go on to higher education (University), or you may decide to go straight into employment within the health and care sector, including the fields of health and social work or mental health care.

Are there any extra costs?

Students on this course will be obliged to purchase text books and a uniform for work placement . There is a charge of £50 for uniform available to purchase from our online shop.

During the course there will also be an additional cost for educational visits.

We would also recommend holding a grade 4/C in Science at GCSE level, due to progression opportunities for Higher Education (University) especially for those seeking to study Nursing, Ocupational Therapy and Social Work.

Please ensure you check individual University entry criteria to ensure this qualification grants you possible entry to your chosen progression course.

Those seeking Midwifery and Paradmedic Sciences will need to look at studying a A-Level programme which include Level 3 Health & Social Care Applied Certificate plus Science.

In order to complete this course it is a requirement that you carry out a DBS check.
