What will I study?

If you love computer games and would like to learn the craft of game creation, then this Level 3 Games Development course is the perfect start for a career in the games industry or further study at university. The course gives you an opportunity to develop skills and techniques to help prepare you for a career in the games industry through interactive design disciplines.

We are looking for students who, through interactive game design and development, are committed to developing their professional practice as well as developing a portfolio of work over the duration of the course, that will enhance their chances of employment within the industry. If you are interested in developing skills to design and develop your own games then this course is for you.

The course gives you an opportunity to develop skills and techniques to help prepare you for a career in the creative industry through interactive disciplines such as game design and development, interaction design, 2D and 3D animation. You will undertake projects, which allow you to experiment with a wide range of digital skills and techniques, working towards the production of engaging interactive experiences. Some prior experience of digital design, animation or programming are useful but a willingness to learn and engage in the development of digital and physical interactive prototypes is essential. Our creative briefs will challenge you to develop professional practice both in our studios and through the development of a professional portfolio and we encourage you to connect with industrial practitioners through visits, external briefs and challenges.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum five grade 4-9/C-A* at GCSE, or completed the Level 2 qualification.

How will I be assessed?

The course is project/assignment based and there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the course and the year will culminate in a final project which will be graded as a pass, merit or distinction. This course is 100% coursework and you will present your work in a range of formats You will be assessed on your research, development and experimentation and final outcomes and you will be encouraged to develop your work and professional practice through evaluation and self-reflection.
