If you are working towards a career in construction, then this Level 2 course will help you take your skills to the next level. You will learn more about carrying out domestic and commercial repairs, including basic plumbing, carpentry, and plastering.

During this one-year course you will learn a range of technical skills, across the construction industry, to allow you to carry out small scale repairs and prepare you for employment. You will be able to draw on your previous knowledge and experience to help you master a number of repair and cosmetic requirements inside and outside. Using our purposed built workshops you will learn skills in joining pipework, making basic carpentry joints and structures, plastering, and decorating using paint, tiles, and wallpaper. You will be able improve your English and maths skills as well as improve your employability skills during work experience placements.

Assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. Practical tasks will make up 60% of the assessment, coursework will make up 30% and 10% will be made up of exams. Accuracy and completing tasks within a specified time frame will be important to the successful completion of the course. Constructive feedback from your tutor will also help you to improve and progress towards recognised industrial standards.
On completion of the course you can progress onto more advanced study in Carpentry or Plumbing, or start an apprenticeship in a construction subject.
With some additional training you can then start your career in the industry as a building maintenance operative, become self-employed or go into property development
A range of specified PPE and a basic kit and equipment will be required for this course and will cost approximately £100.
The PPE required will consist of safety boots, work trousers, navy/black polo shirt, gloves, hi-vis vest and safety glasses. There are also a number of opportunities throughout the year for various construction related trips which may also incur a cost.
Attendance, timekeeping and preparing for work-readiness are key features of this course.
