Our HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering course can be studied as a stand-alone qualification, or as the first year of the HND qualification. It will give you a broad understanding of Electrical Engineering principles and provide a strong, sector-related emphasis on practical skills. You will study mathematics, modern design, and electrical techniques, as well as mechanical principles to give you a broad understanding of all industrial needs.
HE (Degree Level)
During the course you will cover three core modules. During these modules you will explore the details and principles that underpin analytical methods and engineering science. You will also undertake a personal project that will require you to use your creative abilities to design, implement and evaluate a solution to an engineering problem. You may also decide to expand your knowledge in advanced electrical and electronic principles and the measurement and testing of electronics to complete the qualification.
A range of modules you could choose are below (offered subject to demand and availability of resources):
The modules shown for this course are those currently being studied by our students, or are proposed new modules. Please note that programme structures and individual modules are subject to amendment from time to time as part of the University’s curriculum enrichment programme and in line with changes in the University’s policies and requirements.
Once you have completed the course you will have a diverse range of transferable skills that will enable you to either, advance in your current role, or push for a promotion in this exciting industry. You may also choose to continue onto the second year of the course to complete the HND programme.
Past students have gone on to work with local businesses such as Qinetiqs, where graduates secure technician, supervisor and management roles. Past students have worked with companies such as EDF, Aero Vintage, Photek, Deutsch(TE), Secol Engineering, VG Scienta, Stevens Rowsell, British Gypsum and Interface Engineering.
Meet our course leader, Peter Wheeler. He’ll tell you more about the degree course, the skills and knowledge you’ll gain, and why you should come and study with us in Hastings. You’ll also meet first-year student, Nick, who loves learning about the theoretical side of engineering.
