What will I study?

The UAL Level 3 Creative Media Production & Technology Diploma is the first of a two year, full-time programme, leading to the Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology.

This full-time course will see you start your journey as a media professional. This course offers intensive professional production-based education and training across the four major media languages: Film & TV, Journalism, Graphic Design & Radio Broadcasting. You will be taught by a team of professionals with extensive experience in the industry. You will also develop academic research and writing skills, essential for progression to Higher Education and much of the workplace. You will gain good, work related experience of practical production assignments, which involve considerable teamwork and specialist expertise, providing a unique opportunity to produce a professional portfolio of work that will give you the edge over other students applying to university or the workplace.

By the end of the first year you will have made promotional films for a client that are published onto numerous company websites, been given the opportunity to submit stories/reviews for Tag magazine and working collaboratively with Art & design department to film and edit their fashion show. In the second year of the course you will be directly involved in the production of a radio station and Tag Magazine.

If you join the programme without a Maths GCSE at C/4 or above, then you will study maths alongside this course.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

You must achieve at least five GCSEs grade A*/9 - C/4 in four different subjects, including English Language, or an equivalent Level 2 vocational qualification.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is continuous throughout the course with key dates published in year for academic review with your tutors and through production based assignments. There is no formal examination for the diploma but you will complete an end of year project for external moderation. This Final Major Project will give you an opportunity to specialise as a Filmmaker, Graphic Designer, Journalist or Audio/Radio broadcaster.

What qualification will I achieve?

Successful completion of Year 1 results in achieving the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology (equivalent to 1.5 full A levels). The second year qualification leads to the award of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology. This is equivalent to three A levels. The grades correspond to A level grades, but range from Pass to Distinction. This qualification attracts the same UCAS points as A Levels.

What can I do after completing this course?

This course can provide a pathway to specialist degree courses in universities and colleges of higher education. Subject to appropriate grades you may be eligible to apply to Sussex Downs College's Art & Design Foundation (Media specialist Pathway) or foundation degree in digital media design.

Are there any extra costs?

We are currently reviewing our materials fees to try to eliminate these for future years. There may be piece fo equipment we recommend you purchase during your time of study which we will discuss with you at interview and at our open events.

Additional Info

This course also benefits from visiting lecturers including local, regional, and national media professionals. Please note it is expected that learners will undertake around ten hours of home study/on location work per week in addition to classes at the College.
