What will I study?

This one-year course will give you an introduction into the Sports and Uniformed Protective Services industry. You will join with students from the Sports and UPS department at the start of the year to learn a range of key skills. Theory and practical lessons will take place in the classroom, in our fully-equipped gym and sportshall where you will learn about physical activity, UPS entry requirements/fitness testings and healthy lifestyles

Topics you will study and develop skills within include:

Healthy lifestyle Participation in sport Sports leadership How the active body works Customer service skills Presentation skills Physical fitness English and maths

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum two grade 2 at GCSE including English and/or maths.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a range of practical and coursework assignments, as well as an exam.

What qualification will I achieve?

Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies with specialism in Sport & Public Services

What can I do after completing this course?

On completion of the course you can progress onto further study including our Level 2 in Sport or Protective Services, where further skills will prepare you for a career in sport and active leisure, or a career in one of the uniformed public services.

With additional training you could start your career in the industry working as a Gym instructor, Personal trainer, Sports coach, Leisure assistant, or joined the police, the navy, or the Air force.

Are there any extra costs?

There will be some extra costs for this course as you will need the appropriate kit for practical sessions. You will be able to purchase college-branded kit through our local supplier.

Educational trips and visits will take place throughout the year. Some of these are required as part of module completion. These will be at a small cost.

Additional Info

Functional Skills Maths and English or GCSE Maths and English (dependant on entry grade) will be studied alongside this course.
