ESC Make-Up Students Shine at UK Bridal Make-up Competition

East Sussex College students, Sinead Stannard and Lydia Smith, shone at the UK Bridal Make-up Competition last week, as Lydia picked up the runners-up award!

Recently, two Level 3 Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair, and Make-up students, Sinead Stannard and Lydia Smith, showcased their exceptional skills at the prestigious UK Student Bridal Make-up Competition held at Professional Beauty in London – and they certainly left a lasting impression!

Sinead Stannard, known for her creativity and precision, along with Lydia Smith, whose attention to detail is unparalleled, brought their A-game to the competition. Tasked with creating breathtaking bridal looks, they transformed their fellow classmates, Angie and Lucy, into visions of elegance and beauty.

Their artistry and dedication captivated both the audience and the judges, leaving them in awe of the talent displayed by our students. Lydia's exceptional work earned her second place in the competition – a testament to her skill, passion, and hard work.

Following her success as a runner-up, Lydia told the College, “When they announced I had come in second place I was too shocked to feel anything until afterwards! I realised how big of an opportunity it was for me and my future career.

“During the competition we had to complete head to toe make-up in a bridal style. This included hair, makeup, nails and a costume. We had two hours to complete the full look but were able to prep the hair, complete the nails and get the models changed beforehand. Multiple judges came around constantly to check what we were doing and ask us questions about our looks.”

Speaking on the encouragement and support that she received from her tutors throughout her course, Lydia said, “Our tutors are there for anything you might need help on and teach a range of new topics. For the competition, our tutors took us by minibus up to Excel in London and helped us to move all of our kit around excel.

“I would most definitely recommend the course to anyone that is interested in hair and make-up. We complete full make-up and hair looks and there is a lot of opportunity for work experience in the industry which is great to include in your CV.”
