What will I study?

Geography A-Level is an exciting course that enables you to engage critically with real-world issues. You can apply your knowledge, understanding and skills to topics such as globalisation and climate change to help you make sense of the world around you.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

A GCSE grade 5 in Geography (if taken) and grade 5 in English Language.,Our general entry requirements to study 3 A-Levels or any mixed level 3 programme are: 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 including English Language and/or Maths at grade 5. Subject specific entry criteria may also apply. Our general entry requirements to study 4 A-Levels are: 6 GCSEs grade 4-9 including English Language and Maths at grade 6. Subject specific entry criteria may also apply.

How will I be assessed?

During this two year course, you will study topics including consequences of globalisation, responses to hazards, water insecurity and climate change.

The course gives you the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of physical and human geography, the complexity of people, environmental questions and issues, and become critical, reflective and independent.

During your coursework assignment, you will have the opportunity to define a question or issue for investigation. The question will relate to any aspect of geography contained within the specification. The investigation report will show evidence of independent analysis and your ability to evaluate and present data.

What qualification will I achieve?

You will be assessed by three written exams. Paper one is two hours and worth 30% of the qualification. Paper two is two hours and worth 30% of the qualification. Paper three is one hour and forty-five minutes and is worth 20% of the qualification. Your coursework will make up the remaining 20% of the qualification.

What can I do after completing this course?

A full A level in geography.

Are there any extra costs?

Geography is a high-profile humanities subject, which shows a breadth of knowledge and can provide a pathway to a range of degree courses. It is seen as a facilitating subject by Russell Group universities and allows you to go on and study a huge range of subjects such as medicine, environmental planning, architecture and oceanography.
