What will I study?

Start your journey as a media professional with intensive production-based education and training across the four major media languages: TV & film, journalism, graphic design and radio/audio. What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English and/or maths at grade 4. A portfolio of work will be required.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is continuous throughout the course with key dates published in year for academic review with your tutors and through production based assignments. There is no formal examination for the diploma but you will complete an end of year project for external moderation. This Final Major Project will give you an opportunity to specialise as a Filmmaker, Graphic Designer, Journalist or Audio/Radio broadcaster.

What qualification will I achieve?

Successful completion of Year 1 results in achieving the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology (equivalent to 1.5 full A levels). The second year qualification leads to the award of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology. This is equivalent to three A levels. The grades correspond to A level grades, but range from Pass to Distinction. This qualification attracts the same UCAS points as A Levels.

What can I do after completing this course?

This course can provide a pathway to specialist degree courses in universities and colleges of higher education. Subject to appropriate grades, you may be eligible to apply to the Art & Design Foundation (Media specialist pathway) or Digital Media Design Foundation Degree.

Are there any extra costs?

We ask all Media students to purchase a pair of headphones and to make sure they have materials to support their learning. You may be asked to contribute towards additional trips on the course which sit outside of the curriculum trips and visits.

Additional Info

This course also benefits from visiting lecturers including local, regional, and national media professionals. Learners are expected to undertake around ten hours of home study/on location work per week in addition to classes at the college.
