East Sussex College students, Beth Monro and Lorella Booker, currently studying Beauty Therapy at the College’s Lewes campus have advanced to the national finals of WorldSkills UK!

Beth MonroLorella BookerLorella (left) and Beth (right) are two of just 442 talented students from across the UK who have made it through to the national finals of WorldSkills UK following a successful qualifying heat at Walsall College last month. Beth competed in the Beauty Practitioner qualifier round, and Lorella competed in the Beauty Therapist qualifier round.

The finals get underway from 14-17 November at colleges, independent training providers and universities across Manchester.

Both successful students who have already achieved great things in WorldSkills were supported by expert tutor, Shelli Simkin, who continues to provide maximum support for learners to succeed.

Shelli says, “I am unbelievably proud of both learners, as they have both secured their places in the National finals that will be held in Manchester in November. Only the 8 highest scoring competitors for each round qualify for nationals. Therefore, Beth and Lorella have done incredibly well to get this far.

“The training for nationals will begin in September, when Lorella returns to college to study Level 3, and Beth is returning for a third year, to study Level 4 Beauty Therapy. It will be a lot of hard work, but I already know that Beth and Lorella are up to the challenge.”

As per WorldSkills UK, Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education Robert Halfon said,

“Congratulations and best of luck to all of the apprentices and students competing in the national finals this year and showcasing their exceptional talents in a diverse range of skill disciplines, from manufacturing and engineering to health and social care.

“WorldSkills UK not only provides an unparalleled opportunity to hone your skills and climb the ladder of opportunity towards a better and brighter future, but it is also a chance to celebrate and champion vocational courses and the further education sector.”
