A Journey in Care through an Apprenticeship

Mollie Taylor

Mollie Taylor, an apprentice working towards her Level 2 Diploma in Care, is already making an impact in her chosen field of work.

Embarking on the path of an Apprenticeship can be transformative, providing not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience. Mollie, a dedicated apprentice studying at East Sussex College, shares her insightful experience as she progresses through her Apprenticeship journey, pursuing a Level 2 Diploma in Care to become an adult care worker.

Speaking to the College about her Apprenticeship journey so far, Mollie said, “Yes, I am very much enjoying my Apprenticeship as it has given me so many opportunities and skills for my future life.”

The blend of practical learning and written work has proven to be a useful dynamic approach for Mollie. Working at Crest House Care Home in Hastings, she's actively applying her knowledge in a real-world setting.

Choosing an Apprenticeship was a strategic decision for Mollie, who recognises the value of learning while doing. She said, “I chose to do an Apprenticeship as I can learn skills whilst doing the job and taking them all in whilst I do off-the-job written work and I gain hands-on experience all at the same time. Being an apprentice has helped me become more confident as a person in my work life and my life in general. It has helped me conquer challenges I wouldn't approach before applying for my apprentice position.

“I would recommend becoming an apprentice because you can learn so many skills whilst you are physically working and watching your other colleague's work around you. You can gain the softer skills that can help you become more confident and help you throughout your career and make you a great team worker.”

Mollie also acknowledged the importance of her assessor, saying, “My assessor has been absolutely brilliant throughout the time I have started working on my apprenticeship. She has always been very reliable and helpful. Always very patient and responsive and overall supportive.”

Looking ahead, Mollie outlined her clear plans for the future. “My plans are to stay at Crest House Care Home to carry on working and training in being a carer and to hopefully be able to start on a Level 3 Diploma in Care.”
