East Sussex College sports student Ralph Plant is headed to Switzerland to play for Great Britain in the International Inline-Skater hockey Federation (IISFF) European Championships.
Ralph, 17, from Ringmer, studies Triple Sport at ESC Lewes. The talented teenager is now in Cadempino, Switzerland, this weekend (10th November) representing GB in Inline-Skater Hockey. Four teams are in the finals: Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Germany are the defending champions from 2017.
Ralph made Team GB after a successful try-out in April 2018. The try-out assessed Ralph’s skating, shooting and positional work.
“I have a busy schedule with College and training but I’m excited to play and represent GB in the Finals,” says Ralph. “My teacher, Hayley (Funnell) has been so supportive. I’m also completing my Coaching CSLA award. After College, I hope to get an apprenticeship with a leisure centre or somewhere else in the sports industry.”
Ralph started playing Inline Hockey four years ago, playing for the Under 16’s team, the Brighton Stormers. He is now on the Senior Men’s Team in Brighton and has already played in America and Spain in 2018. He studies the Sport BTEC Level 3 course and Coaching CSLA award at East Sussex College Lewes.
The European Finals tournament starts Saturday 10th November in Cadempino, Switzerland.
