College students achieve Infection Prevention qualification

Level 2 VTCT qualification in Infection Prevention

Students studying Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing, Barbering, Beauty Therapy, Complementary Therapies & Hair & Media Make up courses at East Sussex College have achieved the Infection Prevention qualification as part of their studies.

The Level 2 VTCT qualification in Infection Prevention ensures students are trained and knowledgeable in keeping themselves and clients safe in the salon environment.

The new sector-specific Covid-19 Awareness qualifications go more in-depth than general guidelines surrounding hand washing, wearing PPE and social distancing. The comprehensive content is written for the specific industry, enabling students to practise safely.

“With the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, the way students perform their duties in the salon has changed drastically,” says Paula Rego, Level 3 Hairdressing Coordinator. “As a response, all our students have had to complete this qualification since starting or returning to college. The groups have been really good and taken it all in their stride. It’s been a very unusual year and students have adapted to the required work amazingly.”

Marcus Bull, Chief Commercial Officer for VTCT said, “We are proud of the work undertaken by our team to develop these robust qualifications as we have a responsibility to ensure that learners are equipped with the most current and essential knowledge required to safely and effectively perform treatments. We believe as more professionals complete these qualifications, it will increase safety within industries and slow the spread of the virus ensuring these services are performed in the safest possible way.”

Students completed a workbook and sat an online exam in order to gain the qualification.
