Delight for students as they open their A-Level results

Students at East Sussex College were celebrating on Thursday morning after collecting their A-Level results.

There were some outstanding results across the three campuses in Eastbourne, Hastings and Lewes.

In Lewes, Robert Stevens was delighted to find out that he achieved an A* A* A in his three A-Levels, Business, Media and Psychology. He is now going to study Law at Sussex University. “I’m very happy,” says Rob, who already runs a successful business outside of college. “I'm excited to be going to university and will continue to run my business, Sussex Vegan, setting up vegan festivals across Sussex and being one of the largest online directories of vegan food around.”

Holly Purdie was ecstatic with her results which included an A* in English Language and Literature, an A in French and an A* for her extended project qualification which looked at a current hot topic: plastic pollution. “I’m so happy! I’m now going to UEA to do International Development within Environment with a year abroad so I'm excited about that!”

Tyler Mapsted received an AAB in Biology, Chemistry and Business and will be heading to Derby University to study Forensics.

In Hastings, Oxford University bound, Gerheris Gidlow opened his results to find an A* in Economics, A* in Politics, A in History, and a B in Philosophy. He said: “I’m really happy with my grades, I’ve worked really hard and had fantastic support from my teachers. I’m so pleased it has all paid off and I can't wait to start my History degree at Oxford.”

Molly Casares was delighted to achieve an A* in English Literature, an A in Fine Art and a B in Politics. “I’m really pleased with my results and I’ve secured my place at the University of Bristol to study a Master’s degree in Liberal Art. It’s a four-year degree that includes a Master’s degree in the final year. It also has a year abroad so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Eddie Flyte was over the moon with his two As and a B from his three A-Levels in Photography, Media, and English Language to get him into the University of Sunderland to study Film and Media studies.

In Eastbourne, Natalia Srodek achieved a fantastic two A*s and two A grades in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics. Fellow classmate Abdulla Mohammad achieved an A* in Maths and A grades in Further Maths and Physics.

It wasn't just A-Level students receiving their results on the day. BTEC students also came in to find out how they had done over the past two years.

Musical Theatre and Art student Brianna Kelly from the Lewes campus said: “I got double distinction star and an A* in my A-Level! It was intense studying a BTEC and an A-Level course together but the tutors were very supportive and put up with all my out of hours emails! I'm now going to Guildford School of Acting to study Musical Theatre.”

Nicole Santos studied Level 3 Childcare achieved a Triple Distinction Star and is about to start a full-time position at St. Andrews Prep School. “I was shocked and absolutely delighted with my grades. The grades have helped me secure the job I want and I can’t wait to start!”

The delight was clear to see on Chloe Lashmar’s face as she opened her results in Hastings to see a Distinction Star in Applied Science BTEC and a B in Geography. “I’ve done it and I couldn’t be happier! I’m really proud of my achievements and it means I can go to uni to study Paramedic Science.”

The college’s excellent record of helping students achieve high grades and move onto their first choice destinations continued this year, whether that is onto university, into work, or starting an apprenticeship.

Fred Carter, Principal, East Sussex College Lewes said, “We are delighted with the results overall at Lewes. The A-Level pass rate went up again for the second running and there have been some outstanding grades with a number of students achieving at least three As. Well done to the students and staff for all the hard work they have put in over the past two years.”

Jim Sharpe, Principal East Sussex College Hastings said: “This is a fantastic set of results for our students. I’d like to congratulate them all on their hard work and commitment throughout the year.”

Rebecca Conroy, Principal East Sussex College Eastbourne said​: “We are all so delighted for our students and know how hard they have worked to achieve their results.
