Sussex Downs College were proud sponsors of the Women in Education category of this year’s East Sussex Women in Business Awards. Winning the coveted award was Chanctonbury Healthcare. Their achievement is thanks to the hard work and dedication of training manager, Jane Mills. Jane has worked in the industry for over 15 years and has designed specific training programmes for those wishing to develop managerial skills, particularly for those who at first lack confidence. Jane’s expertise and vision has made Chactonbury Healthcare a leading employer for women in the residential care industry.
Collecting her award from the College, Jane was all smiles. She modestly described the moment she won, “I hoped we’d get a mention, but I didn’t think it would actually happen.” Jane continued to explain the passion she has for her line of work, particularly when she has helped women develop employability skills. “It makes it all worthwhile when you help someone with zero confidence believe in themselves. I know women who didn’t think they had much to offer employers, but with encouragement and training, have gone on to achieve academically, and become team leaders and managers.” Jane’s win is well deserved and an inspiration for many.
