Eastbourne Youth Radio returns for 21st edition

Eastbourne Youth Radio (EYR)

Eastbourne Youth Radio (EYR) returns for its 21st anniversary (17-19 November) on 87.7FM and online at www.eyr.org.uk. The broadcast will be hosted, once again, at East Sussex College Eastbourne, which will give local students aged 5-19 an opportunity to produce and host a radio show.

The special focus of this year’s coverage will be around Anti-Bullying Week alongside the ever-present important issues surrounding mental health and wellbeing.

The excitement kicks off at 10am on Wednesday 17 November and there are some thrilling items lined up across the three-day schedule. Highlights include the East Sussex College sponsored show, ‘Meet the Media’ (Thursday 18 November, 12pm), which is a fantastic opportunity to provide students with tips and advice ahead of potential futures in the industry.

Students will face a panel of media professionals including, Joe Miller - Kelsey Media’s Head of Video for motoring titles and Staff Writer on Classic Car Buyer, and Rik Scott - freelance Radio Production and Voiceover Artist.

EYR is an excellent opportunity for students to get a genuine feel of what it’s like to operate a 24-hour radio station, particularly with several late-night shows lined up!

There are countless other shows to look forward to as well, including items from Stone Cross School (18 November, 10am), Willingdon Community School (18 November, 11am), and St Catherine’s College (19 November, 1pm) to name a few. Don’t miss out!

Rebecca Conroy, CEO of East Sussex College, said, “We’re really excited to once again host and sponsor Eastbourne Youth Radio. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to get first-hand experience in the industry and meet experts in the field.

“The chance to offer students the opportunity to develop their technical and creative skills, whilst also promoting conversation about Anti-Bullying Week and mental health and wellbeing, was one that we couldn’t turn down. This year I have been given my own show which I am very excited about. I will be interviewing year 11 students about what they want from their post-16 college experience.”

The 21st edition of EYR airs 17-19 November 2021 on 87.7FM and online at www.eyr.org.uk. See you there!
