Former Travel and Tourism student takes to the skies

Izzy Macleod

Former East Sussex College Hastings Travel and Tourism student, Izzy Macleod, has achieved her dream job in the travel industry as she takes to the skies for British Airways!

Izzy studied Travel and Tourism at East Sussex College Hastings and left the College in 2019. Since her time at College she has gone on to achieve a job with British Airways.

Speaking on achieving a job in her dream industry, Izzy told the College, “When I found out I had been successful getting my job with British Airways I was over the moon. Never did I think I'd be able to be in the place I am now, but I did it! It was the most challenging, but exciting journey going through training etc, but it has definitely all been worth it!

“Having my Travel and Tourism diploma and cabin crew training at ESC helped massively when applying to airlines. It really shows the employers how much you want a job in the aviation industry and gives you a real insight into what the job entails. Whilst going through my training at British Airways and completing exams, I found that all I had learnt at college made it easier and a lot less stressful as I had gained some of the knowledge I needed from the courses I had completed.”

She added, “I found the courses at college fun and exciting. My tutors were Hayley Watkinson and Louiza Tryphonos. I couldn't have asked for two better women to look up to. They gave me and my classmates so much support throughout our course and felt like no question was a silly question. You could really tell that they want the best for their students and I give all credit to them for getting me to where I am now.”

Speaking on advice she’d give to young people looking to follow in her footsteps in the industry, Izzy said, “My advice is to go for it! I've always been told that if you love your job, you'll never have to work a day in your life again.

“I would also say get as much customer service experience as you can before applying. This will help you in your interview and career to refer back to personal experiences you have gone through. I would also complete the travel and tourism, and cabin crew courses at ESCG to gain that extra experience to help you towards your future career.”
