Former Young Landscape Photographer of the Year to have work displayed at ‘The First Floor Art Gallery’!

Josh Elphick

A new art gallery, named ‘The First Floor Art Gallery’, is opening in Haywards Heath and will feature the impressive work of former East Sussex College student and award-winning photographer, Josh Elphick.

Josh, who is now 19-years-old, studied Film and Photography at East Sussex College in Lewes where he achieved a ‘Distinction’ for his exceptional work. Whilst at the College in 2020, Josh was deservedly awarded the National Young Landscape Photographer of The Year Award.

The inaugural exhibition will take place at Haywards Heath Town Hall and will be opening on Friday 11 March 2022. The Gallery will be open to the public between 6:45pm and 9:00pm in the evening.

Copies of Josh’s work will be available to order on the night. Attendees can take part in a raffle for the chance to win a signed copy of the award-winning image, ‘Counting Sheep’, with the proceeds going to The Mayor’s Charity.

East Sussex College’s Sam Holloway will be playing live music at the Gallery. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear talks from ESC’s Andrew Williamson about Josh’s success and Creative Industries at the College, and also words from the Mayor of Haywards Heath, Howard Mundin, and Mims Davies, an MP for Mid Sussex.

Back in March 2021, Josh became one of the first artists to exhibit work in train station waiting rooms through the project ‘Art on the Line’. The former award-winning photographer was full of praise for tutors at East Sussex College.

Josh said, “When I started photography a few years ago, I had no idea what it would lead to. Having my work displayed in a solo exhibition feels amazing and it’s really motivating and exciting to see what I can do next with photography.

“A huge thank you to all my tutors who taught me the basics of photography in my first year of college, and also thank you to everyone who has made the Art on the Line exhibition happen.”
