Health T-Level Highlights

East Sussex College students studying the new T-Level Health course in Lewes, are now in full flow with the first students having started in September thriving in their studies.

Under the guidance of Anne-Marie Spicer, Health T-Level lecturer, the programme is now in full flow. Students have embraced working in the hospital room (315), where they are learning to use all the equipment and have delved into a substantial amount of theoretical learning.

Guest speakers have played a pivotal role in enriching the students' learning experience. Six industry professionals, including a midwife, army medics, a practice nurse, paramedic, occupational therapist, and a dementia care specialist, have conducted talks and workshops directly related to curriculum learning criteria and employability. The engagement with industry experts has been instrumental in broadening the students' understanding of real-world applications.

A significant aspect of the Health T-Level programme has been the emphasis on community support. Leading up to Christmas and beyond, students actively participated in various community initiatives. Donations were collected for the Lewes food bank, showcasing the students' commitment to social responsibility.

Level 2 NCFE and Level 3 City & Guilds students showcased their creativity by crafting Christmas cards for individuals with sight issues. These heartwarming gestures were delivered to Thornbury Care Home in Uckfield, spreading joy among the residents during the festive season.

The students' creativity extended to making Christmas tree decorations for individuals with sight loss. The delightful decorations, currently on display in the hospital room (315), will soon be donated to the Brighton Eye Hospital, enhancing the environment for out-patients.

As part of their clinical skills development, students established a staff wellbeing clinic, offering vital services such as blood pressure and O2 saturation monitoring. The clinic garnered positive reception, with 17 attendees benefitting from the health checks, prompting two individuals to seek further medical advice.
