Mental Health Awareness Week 2022

Mental Health Awareness Week

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week (9 May - 15 May), and East Sussex College is continuing on a mission to support the wellbeing of students and staff

The Mental Health Foundation has announced that this year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 will be exploring ‘loneliness’ and how we can all play a part to help reduce loneliness in our communities.

A core part of ESC’s support system to students is the Wellbeing team. The College has specialist staff who are well-equipped to support students with their wellbeing including mental health, issues with home life or advice about staying healthy.

The College also provides links to many mental health and LGBTQ+ support sites via the My Student Life web page, including the following:

Togetherall is another safe, online community where people support each other anonymously to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Millions of people in the UK have access via their participating employer, university, college, NHS provider or local council. All armed forces personnel, veterans and their families (16+) also have free access.

As per the Mental Health Foundation website, Mark Rowland, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation, said, “Loneliness is affecting more and more of us in the UK and has had a huge impact on our physical and mental health during the pandemic. That is why we have chosen it as our theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2022.

“Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health so we must find better ways of tackling the epidemic of loneliness. We can all play a part in this.”

Mark added, “The week is also an invaluable opportunity for people to talk about all aspects of mental health, with a focus on providing help and advice.”

For this year's Mental Health Awareness Week the College have split it into three topics, Health, Fitness and Mental Health. For each of these topics there will be relevant information and resources, as well as external support links.
