The Haven Rangers

Eastbourne Youth Radio returns to the airwaves on 87.7FM and online at eyr.org.uk from Wednesday 15th November to Friday 17th November.

Eastbourne Youth Radio (EYR) returns for its 17th year, broadcast from Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne. Shows are presented by local schools and organisations, creating entertaining programmes on a range of topics and in a variety of formats. This year’s EYR coincides with various notable dates on the calendar. These include Anti-Bullying Week, Global Entrepreneurship Week, UK Parliament Week and Children in Need. Some of the schools will be exploring these topics through their shows.

The Haven School’s show airs 12pm on Friday 17th November. Sponsored by Langney Shopping Centre, the school’s environmental club, The Haven Rangers, discuss the things that matter to us about the environment including ‘Animals in Danger’. The environmental hour also includes top tips from The Haven’s resident gardener, Tim.

NHS Health Education England (Kent, Surrey & Sussex) is EYR’s key sponsor for 2017. Rob Smith, Programme Manager – Career Progression for Health Education England across Kent, Surrey & Sussex, says, “We are delighted to support EYR in 2017. It provides a great opportunity for young people to express their creativity and skills and as one of the largest employers in the world, the NHS can also offer young people a range of opportunities too. From work experience and pre-employment programmes to apprenticeships that could potentially lead to a professional qualification. Involvement with EYR will enable us to engage with our local schools and colleges and to give some key messages, not just about NHS careers but also about maintaining good physical and mental health.”

Dr Steven Goss-Turner, Chair of Eastbourne Education Business Partnership, says, “EYR gives youngsters control over the airwaves in a presenter and producer capacity. It teaches them skills transferable to many workplace environments. EYR provides the whole Eastbourne community with a local project that they can feel a part of. ”
