Sensory Learning students and staff of East Sussex College embarked on a sponsored walk in aid of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Demonstrating their determination and community spirit, last month sensory learning students completed a 3km route from the Eastbourne Campus, through Hampden Park, and back, raising an impressive £1343.50 - the highest amount they have ever collected for a cause!

The students’ efforts culminated on 6th June, when they presented their donation to St Wilfrid’s Hospice. The day was made even more special with a heartwarming performance, where the learners sang and used Makaton signing to some of their favourite songs, along with new pieces learned especially for the occasion.

Their performance brought joy and smiles to everyone at the hospice, showcasing their talents and the positive impact of their efforts.

Bronwen Hoad, Sensory Learning Coordinator at East Sussex College, said, “Having the opportunity to be involved with the community plays a huge part in our learner’s enrichment and development here in Sensory Learning. We wanted to raise awareness about such a special charity and provide essential community participation, so what a great way to do so!

“I am immensely proud of our learners for always showing respect, positivity, and such strength during our fundraising events. They didn’t let the hottest day of the year hold them back nor the muddy paths we came across. They are an inspiration. It was an honour to give St Wilfrid’s our donation, they are a wonderful charity, helping so many people and always being so welcoming and accepting of our learners, it was great to be able to give something back.”

Bronwen added, “Of course, none of this would have been possible without such a fantastic staff team supporting our learners! So, a HUGE well done and thank you to everyone in Sensory Learning! We are looking forward to more fundraising next year!”
