Becoming an East Sussex College student for the day gives Year 10s a flavour of the sorts of things they can study once they have finished school. But that’s not all. Our current students constantly tell us that their experience during their own Year 10 Taster Day was a huge factor in helping them to decide where and what they wanted to study after school; making these a really worthwhile day to attend.
Hopefully, your son or daughter has a pretty good idea about what to expect during our Taster Days, but in case you’re a little unsure about them, here are a few reasons why we love Taster Days.
Taster Week is a time in the college calendar where we have a Year 10 take-over. The whole day is dedicated to helping Year 10 students make great choices about their future, for instance, which campus to study at and which courses to study. Our friendly tutors and support staff are on hand all day to make sure students have a fun, enjoyable, and meaningful day - ultimately helping them to make choices that are right for them.
Our college ethos is to treat everyone with respect. College is a place where our students are treated like adults, and the Taster Days are no different. As we said above, this is a great chance to be a college student for the day and experience student life.
We give our Year 10s the freedom and responsibility to spend free time between lessons as they like, but at the same time, trust that they’re able them to turn up and be on time for each lesson.
Hundreds of students, from schools from across East Sussex, come to join us during our Taster Days. This gives Years 10s the perfect opportunity to not only experience college with their friends but also meet lots of great new people. Some of the people they’ll be sharing lessons with may become their new best friends by the time college rolls around.
Quite possibly the best thing about Taster Days is the fact that there are loads of courses for students to try out. The range of courses available at college is huge and includes some interesting and intriguing subjects. The Taster Day gives students the opportunity to try out some of these subjects on a trial run to see if they are the right courses for them.
Our Taster Days are FREE and open to all Year 10 students. It is really easy to sign up using our online booking system. Your son or daughter will be able to fill in their details, select their school, and select up to four subjects.
Taster Days are an educational day out of school so your son or daughter has already been allocated an agreed day to visit the college. If they cannot find their school on the online booking form, then they will be able to sign up as an independent student. Again, this will not have an impact on their school attendance record.
