The NCFE Level 2 Sport qualification is an exciting programme designed for students who are passionate about sport and want to develop their knowledge, practical skills and understanding of the sports industry. This course provides an excellent introduction to the sector, supporting students to progress into further study, apprenticeships or employment within sport, fitness and leisure. Students will learn from a mixture and theoretical and practical application of knowledege, making full use of the excellent sport and fitness facilities based at Eastbourne sports park
Throughout the course, students will explore a range of topics including coaching, fitness testing, skills and tactics in sport and strength and conditioning. Students will develop practical experience alongside gaining valuable knowledge of how sport contributes to health, wellbeing and community development.
The programme is ideal for students who enjoy being active, working as part of a team and developing their confidence through practical experiences. Learners will complete a variety of assignments and activities that allow them to apply their knowledge in real-life sporting contexts, developing transferable skills such as communication, organisation, leadership and problem-solving.
The qualification provides a strong foundation for progression onto Level 3 Sport coaching or employment within the growing sport and leisure industry. All students will complete a compulsory 30 hours of voluntary work experience during the year, with all students expected to source the own work experience placement.

Students will study 7 units, which are a mixture of theoretical and practical elements. Some of these units consist of: Participating in sport Sports coaching Skills, techniques and tactics in Sport Strength and conditioning
Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English or maths at grade 3.
Students will be assessed on a continuous assessment basis throughout the year, allowing students to continually build their grade profile during the year. Assessment methods include essay writing, presentations and practical observations. There are no externally set exams on this course.
Students will achieve the NCFE Diploma in Sport. This is equivalent to 2 GCSEs.
This course provides learners with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport or Sports Science. Alternatively, some students will seek employment within sport, coaching and fitness.
Cost of the course will be approximately £100 which covers uniform which all students must purchase during enrolment. Further information will be given to students at enrolment.
All students studying on this course are expected to participate in one of the campus sports academies or take part in weekly sports enrichment activities. The course is particularly well suited to students who are members of the sports academies, providing opportunities to receive weekly coaching, learn from experienced coaches, and apply their knowledge and skills within their sport qualification.
In addition, students are encouraged to undertake voluntary work with local sports clubs, teams, or primary schools. These experiences help to develop valuable employability and leadership skills, enhance personal development, and strengthen university and employment applications.
Students enrolled on a sport qualification will also receive a free student gym membership at Eastbourne Sports Park. This provides access to the gym for timetabled lessons as well as additional use throughout the week.
