What will I study?

You will use your passion for taking photos to develop your knowledge and skills in the creative photography process. You will gain a thorough understanding of photography and learn how to develop your ideas into an engaging piece of art. Our expert tutors will teach you a range of advanced techniques and processes; let you explore portraiture, landscape and still-life photography, and guide you on how to present your ideas in an informed and meaningful way.

Over the course of the two year you will produce practical and contextual work in a number of areas including:

  • Portraiture
  • Landscape photography
  • Still-life photography
  • Analogue and digital photography
  • Documentary photography
  • Photo-journalism
  • Experimental imagery
  • Photographic installation
  • Recording in video
  • Television
  • Film
  • Editing, image manipulation, printing and an outline of photographic history and culture

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

No subject specific entry requirements.,Our general entry requirement to study 3 A-Levels or a mixed level 3 programme is: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with at least one GCSE at grade 6, and English Language or maths at grade 4.Subject specific entry criteria may also apply.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a combination of both practical and written work, documented in a portfolio to show evidence of individual research, personal development and concepts. During your final year project you will be required to create a piece of practical work during a timed assessment.

What can I do after completing this course?

After you have completed the course you may progress into further study of photography at our University Centre Hastings, joining our popular BA (Hons) Visual Communications: Photography degree.

There are a number of career opportunities available to you after studying this qualification, for instance you may become a commercial photographer, wedding photographer, photojournalist, photographic technician, film specialist, art director, an artist or picture researcher.

Are there any extra costs?

Throughout the year you may be required to buy art materials which will cost approximately £50 - £100. There may also be opportunities to participate in trips and visits to extend your learning, but these may incur additional costs.
