Developed with the British Esports Association, this cutting-edge course will give you the skills, knowledge and qualifications you need to start your career in the $100bn gaming and multimedia industries. In the first year, you will learn about the unique crossover of subject areas that make up the eSports industry. These include enterprise, content creation, marketing, business, teamwork, and event management. Once you have gained this knowledge, you will start to work on designing and delivering of a competitive eSports events. In the second year, you will learn about the technical side of eSsports and continue to develop your understanding of the industry. You will work with a range of industry standard graphic tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator for design and branding. You will use Adobe After effects for Animations and Visual Effects, Green Screen, Live Streaming and Video editing for Publication. Finally working as a team, you will be able to plan and deliver an eSports media event incorporation most aspects of the industry. As well as developing your skills, you will explore the culture of eSports, events management, technical production and a variety of game genres. This course will also equip you with a number of transferable skills to enter a range of careers, including coaching, branding and business planning. During the course you will have the opportunity to play for the college eSports teams in national competitions held by the British Esports Association, Students Championships.
Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English or maths at grade 4.
You will be assessed throughout the course. There will be unit assignments to complete, which consist of written assignments, oral presentations, professional discussions and group work. There will also be a time-constrained assessment. Your overall grade will be awarded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Once you have completed this course, you will achieve a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in eSports.
Once you have finished the course, you could apply for degree courses in eSport, Sport, Business or Leisure. Alternatively, you will have gained a range of skills throughout the programme, recognised by employers, which mean you could pursue immediate careers in this industry. Career opportunities include working in PR and Marketing, Sales, Business Management, Production crew, Journalism and content creating, Social media, or Events management.
