What will I study?

During this one-year course you will learn theoretical and practical skills that will give you an insight into the vastly rewarding world of engineering. You will have practical and theory sessions in our dedicated workshops, taught by experienced engineers, from a variety of engineering backgrounds. You will build a detailed knowledge of the types of machinery used in engineering, touch upon computer-aided design (CAD) and improve your mathematical and scientific knowledge.

Units you will cover over the year include:

  • Engineering machining
  • Engineering workshop skills
  • Welding
  • Engineering maths and science
  • Computer-aided design (CAD)

learners will develop skill in areas such as: hand fitting, turning, machining, welding.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English or maths at grade 3.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed during a variety of written and practical of tasks, and assessed on your accuracy and ability to complete tasks within a time constraint.

What can I do after completing this course?

The hands-on nature of this course forms a large part of the Level 2 Apprenticeship framework, making it easy for you to progress into the Engineering apprenticeship or continue onto the Level 3 Engineering course.

There are a number of career options you can choose such as becoming an Engineering trainee or apprentice Mechanical engineer and Machine operator.

Are there any extra costs?

There will be a cost of approximately £100 to cover the cost of tools, materials, and books. You will also need to provide your own safety boots and overalls.
