“I heard about the competition through someone I work with. He reached the Senior Nationals and came third a few years ago. I’m excited to reach the next stage of the competition and further my skills.”

The experience brought students closer to the brick-making process and inspired them to see the potential in their own brickwork skills. Ibstock has generously offered to donate bricks to the college, helping students practise with high-quality materials.

Brickwork tutor Nigel Edwards has been working with a small group size of just 10 students. He reports a positive return to teaching and learning, with the new environmental factors being the only ‘challenge’ to overcome: “It’s slightly more tricky due to the one-way systems in the buildings and social distancing measures, but they’re all there for a very good reason.”
