5 of the best... FREE things to do this summer

5 of the best... FREE things to do this summer

After a very busy end to the year, we’re looking forward to a relaxing summer break. What better way to relax than not having to spend any money and still getting to do a load of fun things!

We’ve rounded up five of the best free things to do in East Sussex this summer.

1, Old Town Carnival Week, Hastings

This year, Old Town Carnival week takes place from Saturday 3rd August until Sunday 11th August. It is a week of fun, and slightly crazy, events that bring the whole town together for a laugh. You can expect to see Pram Racing, treasure trails, walking tours, art shows, live music, and street parties, which all culminate in a Grand Carnival Procession at the end of the week.

2, Outdoor Cinema at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill

The Sunset Screenings return to the De La Warr Pavilion this August and give you the chance to see three movies. Round up some snacks, dig out a camping chair, and grab a couple of blankets and settle down to enjoy:

  • ‘Bumblebee’ - aka - the yellow car from Transformers on Saturday 10th August
  • 80s fantasy movie, Labyrinth on Saturday 17 August
  • The smash-hit, family sing-along - The Greatest Showman on Saturday 24th August

The movies will start at approximately 8.30pm, once the sun has set.

3, Airbourne: Eastbourne International Airshow

Airbourne celebrates its 27th year of airshow excellence in 2019 and runs from Thursday 15th until Sunday 18th August. Thousands of people flock to the seafront each year to see stunning 2-mile displays from military and civilian aviation display teams including the RAF Typhoon, Chinook, The Blades, Wingwalkers and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. This year the headline flying display will be the magnificent Breitling Jet Team! Displays open 10am - 6pm daily, with flying from lunchtime until approx. 5pm.

4, The Seven Sisters coastal walk, Birling Gap

This is perfect if you love walking and taking pictures. We can’t think of anywhere in the UK that has a more stunning view. The Seven Sisters - which features seven white chalk peaks - stretch along the Channel and make for a wonderful afternoon of walking. There are plenty of pubs and cafes along the way to keep you refreshed.

5, Meet the mysterious Long Man of Wilmington

Take a trip to discover this incredible figure etched into the South Downs. The mysterious Long Man of Wilmington has confused archaeologists and historians for hundreds of years with no definitive answer to how he got there.

Take a stroll along the public footpaths to the base and the top of the figure, get a few selfies and take in the views.
