Collaborative Programme Between College and NHS Shortlisted For Award

Project SEARCH, the NHS Learning Disability Employment Programme, run by Sussex Downs College in collaboration with East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, is shortlisted for HSJ Awards.

Project SEARCH Eastbourne has been shortlisted for the ‘Improved Partnerships between Health & Local Government’ in the HSJ Awards. Coordinator Stacey Beard, based at Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne, will join NHS staff and Wellbeing Lead Jeanette Williams, to attend the judging panel in London on 5^thOctober, to pitch why Project SEARCH should win.

Project SEARCH is an NHS Learning Disability Employment Programme in collaboration with East Sussex Healthcare Trust. Project SEARCH has been running in Eastbourne since 2014, providing job training for young adults with learning difficulties. Project SEARCH is essentially a joint project between a local authority, a local college or school and a host employer.

Project SEARCH coordinator Stacey Beard comments, “We are so proud to have been shortlisted for this award. One of Project SEARCH’s unique attributes is its emphasis on collaboration. It’s driven by partnerships and a network of tutors, job coaches, job developers, and business leaders that play an integral role in executing our goal of obtaining paid employment for individual with disabilities.”

In June this year, 11 interns completed the Project SEARCH course run by Sussex Downs College, in partnership with East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. They have graduated with the employment skills necessary to help them acquire their first paid job

The winners of the HSJ awards will be announced at a special awards evening on 22^nd November at the Intercontinental O2, London.
