The event offered an invaluable opportunity for students to connect with construction industry professionals, enabling them to discuss career paths, gain insights into industry expectations, and explore potential job opportunities.
A key focus of the lunch was fostering connections with employers and highlighting the benefits of supporting students through industry placements (IPs).
This networking lunch aimed to bridge the gap between education and employment by offering students first hand guidance from industry experts. Attendees were able to ask questions, share their aspirations, and develop professional connections that could prove instrumental as they advance toward their chosen careers.
The Construction course at East Sussex College is unique in its delivery by industry professionals, including a lawyer, a quantity surveyor, a site manager, and a surveyor. This approach ensures that students receive practical insights and guidance directly from those working in the field.
With a focus on creating industry links, the course draws on a broad professional network to provide students with opportunities for ongoing industry placements, particularly beneficial for T-Level students.
Georgina McLeod, Construction & Building Services lecturer, course leader and qualified architect, said, “This event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage directly with industry professionals, helping them gain real-world insights and establish meaningful connections. Networking opportunities like this give our students a head start as they prepare to enter the construction industry.”
