The online exhibition demonstrates weaving stories in fibre and is a well-known prestigious competition among students. Amanda’s work titled ‘The Offering’ was made from waste paper pulp, natural earth pigments, chalk paints, gold leaf, daylily leaf cordage, linen thread and encaustic wax.
Speaking to the College about her inclusion in the exhibition, Amanda said, “I was elated! I think the opportunity to exhibit was there for everyone but not everyone had the confidence to step up, which I completely understand. Some of the students who submitted work were already established artists in their own right so you could have felt quite intimidated!
“My Designer/Maker course at ESCG gave me the confidence to put my work out there and grab this opportunity with both hands. When you are surrounded by tutors who believe in you and encourage you, you start to believe in yourself.”
Amanda added, “I would heartily recommend this course to others. Even as a mature student, I have learned so much about myself and the world around me. It's not just about the discipline of art practice but growing as a person with a unique and authentic voice expressing itself through my creativity.”
