On 15th August, Braydon struck gold in the individual fighting event, before going on to compete in the afternoon’s team event. This marked the first time the EJU Get Together had hosted a team competition, and Braydon helped make history once again by winning his fight and contributing to the team’s overall gold medal finish.
Reflecting on his continued progress, Braydon said: “We were working on flow. Getting rid of that momentary pause, just going straight into the technique. Letting Uke lead, then Tori takes over seamlessly.”
This latest triumph comes just weeks after Braydon and his kata partner, Isabelle Everest, 18, successfully defended their title at the European Judo Union Kata Championships in Riga, Latvia, where they became double European champions. Together, they remain the only British kata duo ever to medal at the prestigious competition.
Braydon’s judo journey is an inspiring story of resilience. Living with iris coloboma, a visual defect, as well as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, he admits that staying focused was once a major challenge.
“It was hard at the start to stay focused,” Braydon explained. “But judo has really helped with that. It has taught me discipline and patience. I have come a long way.”
With his determination and commitment paying off on the international stage, Braydon is already looking ahead to his next challenge: competing in Gdansk, Poland, this September.
Back home, he has just completed his Level 2 Art & Design course at East Sussex College and is hoping to progress to Level 3 Creative Practice this September.
Everyone at East Sussex College is incredibly proud of Braydon’s continued success and inspired by his dedication to both his studies and sport.
