East Sussex College Supports World Mental Health Day 2025

On World Mental Health Day 2025 (October 10th), East Sussex College is proud to stand alongside the global community in raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing.

This year’s theme, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”

Disasters and emergencies can have a devastating impact on mental health. In 2020, around 100 million people worldwide were affected by disaster events, with research showing that nearly one-third of those impacted may experience lasting mental health consequences.

Beyond individuals, these challenges also affect workplaces, organisations, and wider communities.

Rebecca Conroy, CEO & Principal of East Sussex College, highlighted the College’s commitment: “We are big supporters of World Mental Health Day. Looking after the mental health of young people is a massive priority and something we are mindful of every day.”

In Lewes, students enjoyed a visit from Animal Magic, who brought along an incredible selection of creatures - including a snake, a skunk, scorpions, bunnies, kittens, and even an armadillo! The event was a huge success, with a fantastic turnout of around 300 students taking part across twelve 10-minute sessions, each filled with curiosity, laughter, and plenty of animal-inspired calm.

At East Sussex College, the Wellbeing Team plays a vital role in supporting students through challenges such as stress, anxiety, or personal difficulties. The team is always here to listen, provide advice, and connect students with the right resources.

As part of this year’s awareness campaign, the College invites students and staff to get involved. Share how you’re supporting World Mental Health Day - whether that’s practising self-care, reaching out to a friend, or raising awareness in your own way.

Post your photos, thoughts, or tips on social media using #WorldMentalHealthDay and tag @WeAreESCG. Together, let’s show that mental health matters.
