This exciting competition, hosted at East Sussex College, is a valuable opportunity for students and aims to showcase the highest standard of brickwork at both junior and senior levels across the UK, with colleges putting their best students forward.
The Guild of Bricklayers is a national organisation where local competitions, lectures and other activities take place. Their aims include promoting and maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork.
Through the UK’s construction college network, the guild organises regional competitions, and East Sussex College is next up!
Nigel Edwards, Curriculum Quality Lead at East Sussex College, said, “We’ve had an internal competition where students built a set model, to choose a junior and a senior candidate that would then represent the College in the competition. It’s a great opportunity as it enables other colleges, lecturers and students, to come to the College to see what we do. It gives our students, and students from other colleges, a good opportunity to excel under pressure and showcase their skills.
“Over the years we’ve had a lot of success in competitions generally, whether it’s regional or national, even down to WorldSkills. Opportunities such as the Guild of Bricklayers competition is one of many reasons why future students should look to study Brickwork at East Sussex College.”
