The three-day broadcast, which was hosted at East Sussex College’s Eastbourne campus, gave students between ages 5-19 an opportunity to experience life on a radio show and find out more about what it’s like to work in the media.
Meet the Media, a sponsored show by ESC, proved to be a hugely successful segment of the edition, as students put the all important questions to a panel of media experts. This year’s expert panel included Jordan Hogan, ESC Alumni and Emmy Award-winning Journalist; Hanna Neter, BBC Sussex Journalist; Ashley Munson, BBC South East Today Technical Editor; Nicholas Foley-Oates, Production Designer; and Peter Lindsey, Editor for Bournefree.
The guests talked about how they got into the media industry and provided specialist advice on how to make a career in the industry. Peter Lindsey said, “The best career advice I can give you is to stand out from the rest! Do something really good, really wow, to make you stand out.”
Rebecca Conroy, CEO and Principal at East Sussex College, said, “Once again, I am in awe of the many staff and students who have worked so hard to bring Eastbourne Youth Radio, a local institution, to life this year. The College works closely with local school pupils on a range of shows and has had many young visitors into our studios which we always enjoy. This is the highlight of the year for our creative media students and they excelled themselves!”
There were also numerous local schools involved in the project who got the chance to come into ESC and see the college facilities and get involved in the production. A huge thank you must go to the staff, students and guests who made this event possible and another success.
