ESC Celebrates Creative Careers Month: Your [Creative] Future Is Closer Than You Think

East Sussex College celebrates Creative Careers Month with a series of inspiring workshops, alumni talks, and hands-on opportunities designed to help students explore future pathways in the creative industries.

Creative Careers Month is backed by Skills for Life, ScreenSkills, and Discover! Creative Careers, and is proudly funded by the UK Government, which has reaffirmed its commitment to the sector through multi-million-pound investment in the creative industries, as expected to be outlined in the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget.

Throughout November, students across the College’s creative courses - including Art & Design, Digital Media, Performing Arts, and Music - are taking part in activities that showcase the diverse range of careers available within this thriving sector.

The creative industries, spanning film, music, digital media, and design, remain one of the UK’s most dynamic growth areas, contributing around £124 billion to the economy in 2023.

From visiting professionals sharing their insights into life in the creative world to practical sessions helping students develop portfolios, the events continue to showcase how creative skills can lead to exciting and sustainable careers. Alumni will also be talking to students about their experiences in the industry, including award-winning designer and art director Steven Haslip, who will be sharing insights into his creative journey and work.

Workshops and talks cover a wide range of topics, from freelancing and self-promotion to film production, theatre design, and creative entrepreneurship. Students will also have the chance to meet alumni now working in the industry, gaining valuable real-world advice and inspiration.

Mark Watts, Assistant Principal at East Sussex College, said: “Creative Careers Month is all about showing our students the breadth of opportunities available in the creative sector - from traditional arts to emerging digital roles. The creative industries are one of the UK’s fastest-growing areas of employment, and it’s vital that our students see how their passion and talent can translate into meaningful, rewarding careers. It’s been fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and engagement throughout the month.”

Championing Creative Careers Month forms part of the college’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for the world of work, connecting them with employers, and supporting them in developing the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the creative economy.
