Black History Month 2023 marks a significant moment to acknowledge and commemorate the invaluable contributions made by black individuals to society. This year’s theme is ‘Saluting our Sisters’ which recognises the crucial role that black women have had in shaping history and inspiring change.
Throughout the month, East Sussex College has planned a series of educational and engaging events, activities, and initiatives at each campus that aim to raise awareness about the diverse history of black communities, celebrate their achievements, and continue a dialogue around important topics related to race and equality.
This includes a pop-up gallery, a chance to enter the national poetry competition, books written by black authors will be a prominent feature in the library, the refectory will produce African inspired food, and much more!
Throughout the month, the College will be sharing some of their best student success stories including Netflix star Amita Suman, political figure Josh Babarinde OBE, and acting duo Almayra and Iman Shah. Keep an eye out @WeAreESCG.
