
The challenge is to produce an original piece of writing in no more than 500 words, exploring the experience of the Windrush generation, the significance of their arrival and the contribution that people of Afro-Caribbean origin have made to British Society.
The main prize is £100 in high street vouchers! Winners will receive a book of poems by Queen's Gold Medal poet, John Agard. Winners, and Runners up will also have their work framed and displayed in selected waiting lounges at Southern train stations (Lewes, Haywards Heath, Hove and Burgess Hill).
The competition is open to young people of East and West Sussex and has two age categories: 11-15 and 16-18. Competition entries should be sent to nigel.ryan@escg.ac.uk by Friday September 1, 2023 and the winners will be announced during Black History Month in October.
Please note: By entering, all individuals will be agreeing to have their photographs and their work displayed in local press, on the College website and in the College newsletter which is distributed to over 50 schools and colleges throughout East and West Sussex.
