Exploring Healthcare Futures: T-Level Health Students’ Placement Experience

T-Level Health Students’ Placement Experience

On 12th March, T-Level Health students from East Sussex College’s Lewes campus embarked on a transformative journey as they attended a placement induction day at Worthing Hospital.

This visit marked a significant milestone in their educational journey, offering them a firsthand glimpse into the dynamic world of healthcare.

Anne-Marie Spicer, Health Lecturer at East Sussex College Lewes, reflected on the event, saying, “Our Lewes campus T-Level Health students had a fantastic time meeting UHSussex staff at Worthing Hospital. It was an invaluable opportunity for them to immerse themselves in the healthcare environment.

T-Level Health Students’ Placement ExperienceDuring their time at Worthing Hospital, the students were introduced to various departments, providing them with a comprehensive overview of the hospital's operations. A highlight of the day was the insightful 'day in the life of a nurse' talk delivered by a member of the nursing team. This session allowed the students to envision themselves as future healthcare professionals, understanding the responsibilities and challenges involved in the role.

Anne-Marie emphasised the exceptional opportunities available to ESC Health students, adding, “Our students have been very fortunate to be offered placements at both Brighton Hospital (RSCH) and Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath).

These placements entail 315 hours of supervised and supported learning alongside multidisciplinary teams, enabling the students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. The students' exemplary conduct was evident as they proudly wore their placement uniforms and actively participated in various activities throughout the day.

Anne-Marie commended the students for their efforts during the day, stating, “Our students represented the College fantastically, with several of them leading presentations during feedback sessions. They did this with confidence and knowledge. Everyone finished the day looking forward to starting their placements.

As the placement induction day concluded, students eagerly looked forward to getting started with their placements. This immersive experience not only enhanced their understanding of healthcare practices but also instilled a sense of purpose ahead of their professional journeys.

The success of the Lewes campus T-Level Health students' placement experience serves as a testament to ESC's commitment to providing holistic education and preparing students for future success in the healthcare industry.
