The newly Emmy nominated reporter studied Creative Media Production Level 3 at the College’s Eastbourne campus between 2010 and 2012, where he started to realise his potential. Jordan is now living and working in the USA in Salt Lake City and is currently working in Marketing.
Following the incredible news of his nomination, Jordan tweeted, “Thank you to my co-workers who believed in me, my skills, and my passion for journalism and visual storytelling.”
Speaking to the College on how the Emmy nomination came about, Jordan said, “I submitted a story to my region for the Emmys back in April. The story aired earlier this year in February and it's about how your phone is always listening to you and what it's doing with the information it gathers.
“About a month later I got another job in marketing so I left the station, but you're still allowed to submit your work for an award as long as it's within the right time period.”
He added, “I watched the nominations live on YouTube with my husband on our sofa. Going into it I was really in two minds about whether or not I would be nominated. One side of me was very sure based on the hard work I put into it and how well the story turned out. The other side of me was worried I wasn't good enough. When they announced my nomination I felt an overwhelming sense of relief, joy, and pride. If I end up winning the award I will likely cry with joy.
On how his time at ESC shaped his career, Jordan told the College, “My time at the College has been an integral part of my learning experience. It's where my passion for journalism and visual storytelling really took off. My lecturers really taught me the basic industry skills I would need to get to where I am now. They prepared me so well for my university course that I had no doubts about what I wanted to do for my career.
“I would definitely recommend that other people study at East Sussex College, especially after secondary school. It helps lay down the foundation for a future career after going through secondary school. Beyond that, I recommend going to university so you can further refine your skills and be the best you can be in your chosen industry.”
Jordan made the big decision to leave the UK to live in the USA prior to graduating from university and he revealed that this decision was key for both his personal and work life.
“I decided to move to the US a few months before graduating university. I was engaged at the time and decided that it was the best move for both my relationship, because my partner lived there at the time, and for my career because there are a lot more opportunities over here with at least four TV stations in every state,” said Jordan.
