From Campus to Cockpit!

Louis Smith

Louis Smith, Travel & Tourism alumnus who studied at East Sussex College’s Hastings campus, has landed his dream role with UK airline EasyJet as cabin crew.

Following the end of his studies at the College’s Hastings campus this year, Louis has already landed his dream role in the travel industry - cabin crew for one of the UK’s leading airlines!

Louis SmithSpeaking to the College about his new role at EasyJet, Louis said, “When I was told at the airport minutes after my interview at the EasyJet open day, the words ‘congratulations’, it was like everything I had worked for and dreamt of had come true. It was an amazing feeling.”

“I’ve not yet had my first flight, so I have to say the best part of the job was the training. It was absolutely amazing and nothing like I imagined or everything I had imagined, but so much better. EasyJet is such an amazing company, they care so deeply about their employees and I felt that the minute after I was told that I had got the job, immediately I was part of a family.”

He added, “My journey at college, starting in Travel and Tourism and progressing on to Air Cabin Crew was honestly the best years of my life. I learnt so much about myself and what I wanted to do with it within those years. They both shaped me immensely, building confidence that makes the year 11 Louis seem unrecognisable.”

Speaking on the influence of his tutors, Louis said, “My tutors, Louiza and Hayley, were the most amazing, helpful and caring tutors I could’ve asked for. I know for a fact that without them I wouldn’t have enjoyed the course as much as I did or got as far as I have. Not only are they amazing at what they do, they love what they do and have a passion for teaching something they both love. They help students aspiring to be cabin crew to find their feet and confidence. But above all making it fun!”

Louis told the College that the key piece of advice for young people looking to replicate his journey is to believe in yourself and never give up.

He said, “My number one piece of advice would be to have confidence in yourself, but to also remember there is a support system therefore to ask for help as anxiety and fear can be the peripheral to walking away from your dreams.

“Facing it all, it can be the key to rising. Therefore, something I have learnt, and am still learning, is never to turn away from something due to fear, or the fact you're simply not sure because there’s a reason why you started the journey.”
