Reflecting on her journey, she credits the Cabin Crew course at ESC’s Hastings campus with equipping her with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the industry.
"I have always been extremely passionate in pursuing a career within the travel industry. From working on cruise ships to now flying as Cabin Manager for British Airways EuroFlyer," Hannah shared.
"Studying cabin crew at East Sussex College was extremely beneficial, from safety procedures, onboard announcements, and preparing for the interview and assessment day process. I always felt one step ahead within my training group because I had the knowledge from the course."
Hannah’s career has taken her from the seas to the skies, offering her a unique perspective on different aspects of the travel industry. Comparing her experiences, she explained, "Working at the airport and on the cruise ships was very different in the sense you always had somewhere to go if you needed a minute to yourself or even just a small breather. Working in a cabin on board an aircraft (especially on short haul) you don’t have that. You are continuously in the public eye."
Throughout her career, Hannah has identified key attributes that make a great crew member. "There are many skills to being a great crew member, but my main ones would be a positive attitude, willingness to learn and progress, punctuality, and a smiley face."
Hannah also highlighted the vital role her tutors at the College played in shaping her career. "The tutors during my time at East Sussex College were incredible, always willing to support us, they were approachable, and I feel that because of my tutors, it gave me more passion to pursue my career within the travel industry. They believed in me, even when I didn’t."
For those considering a career as cabin crew, Hannah offers this advice: "My biggest bit of advice would be if you are wanting to become cabin crew, don’t leave it as long as I did. Get out there, believe in yourself, and apply because I promise you will not regret it. The only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner."
Recently, Hannah returned to the College to speak with Travel & Tourism students, offering them an exclusive industry insight. Now working as a Cabin Manager at British Airways, she shared her journey from her early days working at Gatwick Airport to life on cruise ships and beyond. Her experience in check-in services, customer relations, and cabin crew roles provided students with a fascinating glimpse into the many opportunities available in the sector.
Hannah’s story is a testament to how the right training, determination, and support can lead to a rewarding career in the travel industry.
Her journey from student to Cabin Manager showcases the real-world benefits of East Sussex College’s Cabin Crew course and serves as an inspiration to those looking to take flight in their own careers.
