Hi, my name is Hannah Bishop and I study Level 3 Games Development at East Sussex College Lewes.
One of my favourite things about the course is the freedom you get with it and how you learn new things. It’s a really good course!
On the course, one of the things I’ve learnt is to use software such as Unity and how to build a game and follow tutorials. Being able to do things by yourself is a good way to build your confidence up.
What I’m working on now is my end-of-year project. For the project you have to build the game yourself and decide what it is you actually want to make.
I’ve chosen to make a fantasy platform game. I've created all the artwork for it and now I’m creating a video that I can put alongside my work so people can see how it plays and what it’s like.
The reason why I chose the Games Development course at East Sussex College is because video games is something that has interested me for a long time, but I regretted not doing anything to do with computers in secondary school.
I was looking at courses at other colleges involving video games, but they were more art-based and didn’t seem to learn as much. On this course you get to code as well as make the games, art and things like that. You generally learn more skills over the two years than you would at other colleges.
The course gives you a lot of skills, not just with video games but with website design and how to design things marketed at a certain type of person.
It really shows you how to get out there. It gives you a lot of general skills, for example learning new things with the internet, software design and things like that. I find this really helpful because it gives you a bunch of skills that you can learn for different jobs that you may want to do in the long-run. It’s not very restricting!
