Josh, now the Liberal Democrat MP for Eastbourne and the party’s new Justice Spokesperson, returned to the College to see how things have changed, share his journey, and learn about the new technology being used at the College
He was welcomed by Vice Principal for Business Development Donna Harfield, who showed him around the ESC Training Hub. Josh had the chance to meet staff and students, chatting about how skills training can make a real difference for young people and the local area.
During his visit, Josh explored ESC's new state-of-the-art VR equipment, BodySwaps software & Focus XR software, while also learning about the College's brand new BT Immersive Rooms, all made possible through funding from the LSIF Project.
Josh studied at A-Levels at ESC between 2009-2011 and is a local boy from Hampden Park. As he engaged with staff and students, Josh said, “I love the fact that Eastbourne and therefore you [ESC] are blazing the trail, by being involved in this project. Green energy is part of the future of our country. It has to be, in order for us to get to net zero and for us to protect our planet.
“East Sussex College played such a big role in me doing a lot of the things that I wanted to do. I would not be standing here as Eastbourne's MP had it not been for East Sussex College. It was my first opportunity to study only in the stuff that I wanted to study, and that was a really empowering experience and I'm grateful. It’s also the place where I met lots of people, whether students or staff, who really really believed in me.”
Josh added, “Here at the College, I've got teachers who 15 years later I'm still in touch with! In fact some of my teachers came to campaign for me when it came to the election! I really feel as though I built a community of support here and it's been for the long term.”
Rebecca Conroy said, “Josh is a shining example of what our students can go on to achieve. We’re so proud to see him in Parliament representing Eastbourne and speaking up on justice issues.”
Josh’s visit was an inspiring reminder that success can start right here at East Sussex College!
