George has a passion for cars and racing which was a huge part of why he decided to study Motor Vehicle Body Repair and Paint Level 2 at East Sussex College Eastbourne.
“My dad got me into cars at a young age. I’ve been racing for as long as I can remember, since I was about eight years old. I could barely touch the pedals! My dad did it, and that’s how I got into it at first. I always wanted to do something involving cars,” George says about his decision to join the course at East Sussex College. “Now I’m studying Motor Vehicle Body Repair and Paint Level 2. I love it!”
Every other weekend, George takes part in banger racing at Arlington race track where he races vehicles he has built and designed himself!
He adds, “I’ve painted the car myself, built it myself, the roll cage and harness for example. I’ve been doing it for a few years now so I know what I’m doing! Mick (Poil, Motor Vehicle Body Repair and Paint lecturer) helped me paint it too, I’ll give him some credit!"
Speaking about his latest race at Arlington last weekend, George says, “In the first heat I came second. Where you finish depends on a lot of different things, it’s the luck of the draw sometimes!”
He adds, “In terms of the racing, I have my sponsorships as well, Refine Metals, they pay me to have their logo on the car when I race.”
George took to the track last weekend, before bringing the car back to the College for some repairs. Engineering and Motor Vehicle lecturer, Mark Streeter, helped George fix the car prior to racing at Arlington last weekend. After George’s car sustained further damage throughout the races, he brought it back to the College for some much needed repairs!
Speaking on his plans once he completes his course, George says, “In terms of what’s next for me after this course, I’d love to do Level 3. We’ll see!”
