Performing Arts Students Take on Broadway!

Performing Arts Students Take on Broadway!

From the dazzling lights of Broadway to the hustle and bustle of Times Square, New York City set the stage for an unforgettable experience for 62 of our Performing Arts students.

During an action-packed six-day trip to the Big Apple, students immersed themselves in professional training, iconic sightseeing and some of the world’s most celebrated theatre.

The trip gave students an inside look at one of the world’s leading theatre industries. They joined specialist workshops with top professionals, including:

  • Dance workshops at Steps on Broadway
  • Acting training at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting
  • Musical theatre vocal and rehearsal sessions with Broadway performers

Of course, no trip to NYC would be complete without seeing some Broadway magic. The students enjoyed three shows, bringing their learning to life on the stage.

When they weren’t training, students explored the city’s iconic landmarks, from Radio City Music Hall and the 9/11 Memorial to the Staten Island Ferry, Brooklyn Bridge, Ellen’s Stardust Diner, and even ice-skating in Central Park.

Laura Tompkins, Performing Arts Lecturer, said, “Experiences like this play a key role in preparing our students for future careers in the performing arts, helping them build confidence, professional industry standards, develop their skills and further broaden their understanding of the global theatre industry.”

Lilia Bowley, Performing Arts Musical Theatre Level 3 student, said, “I have just returned from the most amazing trip of a lifetime to New York with the college, which was an incredible experience. I took part in a Little Shop of Horrors Broadway singing workshop and a stage combat acting workshop, toured the beautiful Radio City Music Hall, and got to see some amazing Broadway shows including Death Becomes Her, Moulin Rouge and & Juliet. I want to thank East Sussex College for making this experience possible!”

This trip wasn’t just about seeing New York – it was about experiencing it, learning from the best, and bringing those experiences and skills back to East Sussex College.
