The 38 students made the short journey along Kings Drive on Tuesday 2nd April to get a taste of what college has to offer them after school.
The students are all studying catering as part of their GCSE options, but were keen to find out what a full-time catering course at college would be like and where it could take them in the future.
The College’s Kings Restaurant and training kitchens hosted the group and gave them six cooking and hospitality stations to have a go at.
The students were split into groups and all had the opportunity to try their hand at Oriental cooking by making prawn toast and spring rolls, learn how to set a table, and mix up their own mocktails, all under the watchful eye of hospitality and catering tutors and current students.
Emma Hartup, Head of Curriculum for Catering, said:
“We loved having the Year 10s join us for the Oriental workshop. It was a very enjoyable morning and hopefully it’s given them plenty of food for thought about their options after school.”
Victoria Chalk, Food Technology Teacher at Ratton School, said:
“The students had a great time visiting the Kings Restaurant and training kitchens. It was a great opportunity for them to see and learn about the facilities and find out a little more about the catering courses at the college.”
