Amber Rudd attends the launch of new courses at East Sussex College Hastings, designed to help unemployed adults get back into work

Skills for the Future launched at East Sussex College last week (Friday 21st June) with Amber Rudd, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, as one of the keynote speakers. The new courses are delivered by Sussex Skills Solutions, the apprenticeship and training arm of the college.

Guests included employers, press, council members and members of the public. Louise Aitken, Skills Lead for South East Local Enterprise Partnership, Dan Shelley, the college’s Executive Director Strategic Partnerships & Engagement, and Stephen Burkes, Director of Sussex Skills Solutions, spoke at the launch.

The college has expanded its delivery to include these new courses to help connect employers with people aged 19 and over looking for work.

Amber Rudd commented, “It’s fantastic to see the innovation coming into this college, which stands as a beacon in the local community.”

Skills for the Future will equip learners with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to enable them to return to work in fulfilling careers. The delivery of new courses includes the Inside Track programme, Sprint courses and qualifications in English and Maths.

Courses are funded through the Education & Skills Funding Agency. The courses are free for earners who are unemployed or earning less than £16k per annum.
