Student success in WorldSkills National Finals

Mya Hitchcock and Amy Matthews

East Sussex College students, Mya Hitchcock and Amy Matthews, competed in the WorldSkills national Finals in Blackpool last month, and came away with a Silver medal and Highly Commended award respectively.

Mya previously studied at the Lewes campus and is now on the Level 4 Advanced Beauty Therapy course at ESC Hastings. Amy studies FdSc in Complementary Therapies at ESC Eastbourne.

The WorldSkills National Finals took place in Blackpool and Fylde College in November where Mya and Amy competed as part of the top eight scorers from the regional finals for the Level 3 Beauty Practitioner competition.

Emma Hartup, Head of Curriculum for the Business Service Industries at East Sussex College, said, “Amy has been training with me in preparation for the National Finals and secured the Silver medal for Level 3 Beauty Therapy! It's a fantastic result, we are all thrilled.”

It was a great outcome for both students at the college, as Mya received a Highly Commended award in this prestigious competition. Mya and Amy follow in the footsteps of ESC alumni, Rebecca West and Kaiya Swain, who were both crowned the world’s best young beauty therapist after winning the gold medal in the WorldSkills Finals in previous years.
